Module I - You as Leader

Content

The primary scope of Module One is the individual.  As such there is a distinct focus on the individuals that are going through this programme.  Personal values are made more explicit and are explored in the context of Bertelsmann values.  Individual exploration of personal working styles and career anchors build the process of self-awareness. Individuals’ experience of the organisation is approached through experiential exercises such as colourwork reframe to encourage out of the box thinking and the metier of open conversation is established as a core activity with facilitated group interaction.

Throughout this module, we will explore the following questions:

  • How have your personal values around leadership developed and how relevant are they to your current role?
  • How closely aligned are your leadership values and those of your organisation?  What are the implications for your leadership role?
  • What motivates you in your career and what is your “career anchor”?
  • What are the key elements of your preferred working style?   How can you use this understanding to improve your effectiveness as a leader?
  • How can you develop emotional fluency as a leader?
Method
  • Interactive discussions
  • First hand case studies and coaching by peer group as well as by facilitators
  • Facilitator input (lectures, exercises, facilitated role-plays etc.)
  • Reciprocal feedback
  • Experiential learning methods

Fundamentally, we do not see the trainer as a 'teacher' with superior knowledge, but instead as someone who facilitates and supports. Their primary expertise is in shaping learning processes. Coaches will adjust to the needs of the individual and/or group to ensure the best outcome for all.
