What Is a Skill Benchmark
A Skill Benchmark in Skillsoft Percipio is a short assessment that shows you how strong you currently are in a specific skill. It helps you understand your level. Instead of comparing you to other learners, the benchmark measures your knowledge against defined standards set by experts. The result is a proficiency score that reflects how well you understand the topic today.
Based on your results, Percipio immediately recommends learning content tailored to your needs. This means you can focus directly on closing your skill gaps instead of spending time on topics you already know.
You gain clarity about your current level, direction on what to improve, and a structured path to strengthen your skills efficiently.

How to Use Skill Benchmarks
You gain clarity, focused direction, and a structured path for development. Every 30 days, you can measure how far you’ve progressed.
Step 1: Take the benchmark
Start the benchmark and answer the questions. If you are unsure, you can select “I do not know” and continue.
Step 2: Understand your level
After completing the benchmark, review your score and see which level you have reached, from Hatchling to Elephant. This is your starting point.
When you complete a Skill Benchmark, Percipio reports a numeric score along with a proficiency level. These levels help you interpret your score in practical terms and understand what it means for your readiness to apply the skill in real-world contexts. Skill development is a journey. Each benchmark level represents a stage of growth - from first exposure to confident mastery and leadership.
Step 3: Review your detailed results
In the detailed benchmark results, you can see how you responded by topic. To improve quickly, you can select a topic to open learning content that addresses exactly that area.
Step 4: Learn in the format that fits your time
Select the recommended content directly from your results. Choose short Fast Track videos (3–8 minutes) for quick improvement or dive deeper into longer learning paths to strengthen your expertise.
Step 5: Retake the skill benchmark and track your progress
After completing your learning, you can retake the benchmark after 30 days. Track your progress, increase your score, move to the next level, and perhaps to the next animal.
