The nomination process
The nomination process supports selecting employees for special targeted programs on a cross-divisional level, through their performance and potential data. Participants of our nomination programs will develop within a mission critical role or in another, new role within Bertelsmann and act as accelerator for those strategic important topics. Employees are nominated by divisional Heads of HR/IT and Executive Board and confirmed on Bertelsmann level. We distinguish between two major nomination logics:
Nomination by target group definition
The program pools on peoplenet are prefilled by Bertelsmann Corporate with "Group Executive Pool Participants" and "Top Management Position Holders".
Divisional Talent Manager tasks:
- Check and confirm names according to quota
- Fill up with divisional "Top Management Successors"

Deadlines
Approx. 5 months prior to the program start: Bertelsmann University will check the nominations on peoplenet. Please wait until we confirm the nominees to you, before you communicate to participants.
General
Because communication to participants will be on short notice and due to potential changes, waiting lists are required to fill your divisional quota. We recommend at least 15-20% more nominees than seats.
Please also take into account the Bertelsmann executive board’s expectation to provide a quota of minimum one third women in our programs. We highly appreciate you to nominate accordingly.
Short-term participant cancellations
In the event of short-term participant cancellations, replacement participants can only be invited up to one week before the start of the program. For the Creativity Bootcamp, replacements must be invited no later than 3,5 months before the start due to the digital pre-phase.
Please ensure that we receive all necessary nomination details upfront. Additionally, replacement participants must:
- Be informed about the program dates and be prepared to attend. (For the PFO, special outdoor equipment is required.)
- Agree to complete any required program preparations and travel requirements (VISA, etc.).
- Be confirmed and ready to participate by the specified deadlines.
